Music that doesn’t suck, No. 1: The Water Goblin!

Here's the first of what will become regular Monday morning posts (6am ET), that will hopefully add some musical enrichment to the start of your week! So, grab your coffee (or tea, or whatever...), and let's kick things off with one of my favorite lesser known works by the great Czech composer Dvorak: "The Water Goblin."

While the music is typical Dvorak--full of masterful melodies with just the right amount of rustic folksiness--the story behind the piece is like something straight out of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, and definitely not for the squeamish!

Enjoy this performance by the Czech Philharmonic, conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras!
